Your data
Privacy policy
Last updated 5 October 2026
We collect what the site needs to work and nothing else: who you are, which plan you are on, and how your training is going.
Who we are
EZ Chess Openings, at ezchessopenings.com. For any question about your data, email [email protected].
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your Google account name, email address and profile picture | To create your account, recognise you when you return, and contact you about your plan |
| Your answers to the short questionnaire shown when you join — your level, what you want to work on, how often you plan to train | To suggest where to start and draw your projected progress |
| Your training — lines studied, drill times, personal records, games-room results, XP and a daily XP history for the last 180 days | To show your progress and streak, unlock the next line, and rank the leaderboard |
| Your subscription and orders — plan, billing period, renewal date, and what was paid when | To give you access to your plan, and for our own accounting |
| A session cookie | To keep you signed in. It holds an account identifier and an expiry, nothing else |
We never see your card details. Payment happens on Lemon Squeezy's own checkout. We receive the status of your order and subscription and nothing more.
Chess.com and Lichess usernames
When you use Blind Spots, the username you enter is sent from our server to chess.com or Lichess to fetch that player's public games. We do not save it to your account; your browser remembers the last one you used so you do not have to type it again.
Emails
We email you only about your plan. We do not send marketing emails.
Cookies and browser storage
One cookie, gambit_session, which keeps you signed in and expires
after 30 days. There is no advertising or analytics tracking on this site. Your
theme and sound preferences, and the last Blind Spots username you
entered, are stored in your own browser.
Who else sees it
- Google — when you sign in, so we can verify who you are.
- Lemon Squeezy — our merchant of record, who handle payment and tax.
- Cloudflare — who carry the site's traffic between your browser and our server.
- Resend — who deliver our emails.
- Chess.com and Lichess — only the usernames you ask us to look up.
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising.
The leaderboard
New accounts appear on the public leaderboard by default, under your Google first name. Other visitors see that display name, your profile picture, your level and your XP. Your email address is never shown. You can change the name or leave the leaderboard entirely from your progress page, which keeps your XP but removes the entry.
How long we keep it
Your account and its progress remain until you ask us to delete them. Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, which is typically several years and is not something we can shorten on request.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask for corrections, or ask for the account to be deleted, by emailing [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority.
Children
This site is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will say so on this page and update the date at the top.
